Westbury on Trym lies on the River Trym, in the west of the Bristol conurbation. It dates back to the 8th century when King Offa of Mercia owned the region. A monastary was built, later used as a college, which was re-built in the 15th century to resemble a castle. Set on fire in the English Civil War, only parts remain, including the Gatehouse, which is Grade 1 listed and owned by the National Trust.
